Design Details

The design of this project was centred around creating a bright ‘instagrammable’ space for a rebranded café, on a very limited budget.

This was achieved by focusing money into critical areas and adapting product display to be the focal point. The coffee wall which becomes the backdrop to patrons’ images was created with available materials - for minimal expense, but having a big impact.

Role Description

Pop Architecture was engaged from conception and was involved for the full duration of the project including construction.

Although the design was driven by the celebration and process of making coffee, it also had to be highly efficient, cost effective and functional.

Being a very constrained space, it was important to work closely with the client to understand all the processes involved and exactly how the café needed to function. Through a clever use of space, customers are able to connect with the coffee making process at all stages of brewing and extraction.
This removes the need for additional bench space and concealed coffee preparation zones.

The budget for the project was very limited, so the design had to be rationalised in order to give a considered feel for minimal price. A good example of this are the coffee tables which utilise a very basic table frame and an added cut-tile terrazzo insert. These add an accent of colour to the space without being cost prohibitive.

As the majority of construction work was undertaken by the owner, Pop were highly involved in all facets, right down to the final installation details. This included providing detailed fixing set outs and templates to assist this process.
